Robert was one of the last of the great Mississippi bluesmen. He was taught the guitar by his father Grant Belfour at a young age. Robert continued to hone his craft from other greats like Otha Turner, R.L. Burnside and Junior Kimbrough. Junior’s influence on him was huge as the Wolfman set deep roots in the North Mississippi Hill Country style of playing.

In 1959, Robert moved to Memphis and worked in the construction business for some 35 years. He began playing on Beale street in the 1980’s and in 1994 had 8 songs featured on a compilation album called The Spirit Lives On, Deep South Country Blues and Spirituals in The 1990’s released on the German label Hot Fox Records.

In 2000, he released his first album called What’s Wrong With You and in 2003 released Pushin’ My Luck. Both from Fat Possum Records.

Robert “Wolfman” Belfour was 74 years of age.

His music is played on the Booze & Blues Show (among many other blues radio shows around the world) on Radio-Memphis.
